The following dates are important in September:

1 September

1 September 1484: Early in the morning, a one-armed shepherd finds a missing statue of the Virgin Mary in the ruins of the Muslim castle in Agres, Spain. Upon finding the statue, he suddenly has his lost arm back.

3 September

3 September 1877: Last apparition in Marpingen, Germany.

4 September

Dedication of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to Germany (1954) by Pius XII, Pope from 1939 to 1958.

6th September

5 September 1637: Father Fiacre (1609-1684), an Augustinian monk, has a vision of Mary. He asks Her that the marriage between Queen Anne of Austria (1601-1666) and King Louis XIII (1610-1643) does not remain childless. The royal couple must observe three novenas, with the third taking place in Cotignac, France. Nine months later, their son, Louis XIV (1638-1715), is born.

6 September

Teodoro D’Amici (1912-1993) was invited by Maria to build a church in Brindisi-Jaddico (Italy). This resulted in the Sanctuary of St. Mary Mother of the Church (1962).

7 September

Founding of the Legion of Mary (Legio Mariae) by Frank Duff (1889-1980) in Dublin, Ireland (1921).

8 September

The Birth of Mary; Mary forms a family with her mother Anna and father Joachim.

9 September

9 September 1876: Mary appears to Estelle Faguette (1843-1929) in Pellevoisin, France, and shows her a Scapular of the Sacred Heart, saying that She loves this devotion. This scapular, tied together by ribbons between two pieces of blessed cloth, is worn out of devotion. The apparitions at Pellevoisin are celebrated annually on this day.

13 September

The fifth apparition of Mary at Fátima (Portugal). Our Lady causes a rain of flowers to fall, and as they get closer to the ground, they shrink and then disappear (1917).

15 September

“Our Lady of Sorrows. The memory of the seven swords piercing Mary's heart.

16 September

Appearance in Polish Gietrzwald to Justyna Szafrynska and Barbara Samulowska (1877).

17 September

17 September 1899: Coronation of the devotional image “Mother of Sorrows” at the pilgrimage site “Madonna della Corona” near Piazzi in Italy.

19 September

“Our Lady of La Salette”. Mary appears on the Alpine mountain meadows above the French hamlet to 14-year-old Mélanie Calvat and 11-year-old Maximin Giraud. The children see a “beautiful lady” sitting crying with her hands in front of her face (1846).

20 September

20 September 2009: Consecration of the Marian Grotto in Bunde, Dutch Limburg, by parish priest Jack Geudens (born 1957).

23 September

23 September 2014: Pope Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 1936, Pope since 2013) grants the church at the Spanish pilgrimage site of Núria the honorary title of basilica. Mary Mother of God of Núria (Catalan: Maria la Mare de Déu de Núria) is the patron saint of the Diocese of Urgell, the Catalan Pyrenees and shepherds.

24 September

“Our Lady of Ransom”. This honourific title is for Mary for the ransom of slaves in Spain and Portugal, who were taken as property by the Moors. The Order of the Mercedarians was founded to ransom slaves (1218).

28 September

28 September 1704: Consecration of the pilgrimage church “Maria Visitatie” in Bardo/Wartha, Poland, by Franz Engelbert Barbo von Waxenstein (1664-1706), auxiliary bishop (1703-1706).

30 September

30 September 1855: Third apparition to Teresa Dush (1845-1870) in Porzûs, Italy. Mary draws a small, white cross on the back of Teresa's left hand, which never disappears.
