In the historic centre of Antwerp, there is a Lourdes grotto near St. Paul's Church, at Sint-Paulusstraat 18-20. The grotto is situated in a courtyard, next to the church, in a small park. This plot of land also borders the building that was once a Dominican convent.
The Lourdes Grotto is made of reinforced concrete in 1908 and was consecrated in 1910. It is a rather small Lourdes Grotto, for which a fence has been erected. Mary appears to be looking heavenward and her head is surrounded by a golden nimbus with the inscription “I am the Immaculate Conception”. A rosary hangs from her right arm. Mary is depicted barefoot and a rose is attached to each foot. The rock is also decorated with roses.
The image of Bernadette is depicted kneeling on a small elevation. She is looking at Mary and presses a rosary against her chest with her right hand.
The Lourdes Grotto a monument.
