Before the procession departs, there is the exit of the processional image of Our Lady of Halle as it leaves the basilica. This takes place to the sound of trumpeters and in the presence of clergy. The Maria procession departs at 3:00 PM. Afterwards, there is a concluding service in the Mariahof, followed by the entrance of the image of Mary into the basilica.

The Maria procession displays much of the city of Halle's history, with religious significance for the inhabitants, nobles, and pilgrims from throughout the country. The acquisition of city rights in 1225 is shown, with ladies-in-waiting, courtiers, trumpeters, and floats present. The donation of the statue of Mary is also depicted.

In addition to the Catholic nobles, also present are Justus Lipsius, Poor Clares, Jesuits, Zouaves, altar boys, clergy, and of course, bearers of the shrine of Our Lady of Halle. The choreography of the groups, which also include young people, is remarkably beautiful.

The Marian procession clearly shows around 800 years of Halle's history. The floats simply convey their meaning, the participants are dressed in smart attire, and the procession's assembly also deserves great praise.
