Christmas with Maria

When I look at depictions of Mary in the nativity scene, she enters my consciousness very profoundly. This also happens when I see an image of Her in a chapel or visit a place where She has appeared. It also happens that when I am at home, I suddenly feel that Mary is guiding me, whispering or even smiling. I then look at her image. Then I am captivated by Her and feel happy to be in good company.

What appeals to me when I see an image of Mary in a nativity scene is the simplicity and the message that comes through to me. I see the Mother of God kneeling or sitting by the manger. Her gaze is fixed on the infant she has just given birth to. Her maternal love is not only visible, but also palpable. I can look at this scene in the nativity for a long time, and all sorts of thoughts like motherhood, peace, and being good to others come to mind. I feel privileged to be able to experience this.

During the Christmas season, many Christmas trees are decorated. This can also be done with images of Mary, such as with small pictures, drawings, and even baubles depicting Our Lady.
