The village of Zenderen is part of the municipality of Borne and is located in the province of Overijssel between the towns of Almelo and Hengelo.
The Lourdes grotto stands, just outside the built-up area of the village, in the garden of the former St Joseph convent and retreat house. The complex later becomes the De Zwanenhof estate, and the grotto is located in the park garden, behind the buildings. Next to the grotto is a small graveyard and a crucifix.
The grotto is almost entirely surrounded by greenery and can be reached via a lawn behind the former church. Mary therefore stands here surrounded by greenery all year round due to the ivy-covered grotto. The statue of Bernadette is not visible and in fact this grotto is a Marian grotto. The white statue of Mary looking down is not a classic Lourdes statue. Candles cannot be lit and benches are missing.
During the visit to the Lourdes Grotto in Zenderen, the complex serves as a reception centre for Ukrainians who have fled the war in their country.
Address: Retraitehuisweg 6, 7625SL Zenderen.
