Beveren-aan-de-IJzer is a sub-municipality of Alveringem, situated in the Westhoek of West Flanders along the River Yser.
In the small Chapel of Mary a beautiful Lourdes grotto has been created. The chapel dates from around 1900.
Above the entrance to the Mary chapel is written “Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us”. The statue of Mary is a typical Lourdes statue in the colours white and blue. Fairy lights have been placed around the statue of Mary. There is also a small statue of the kneeling visionary Bernadette Soubirous inside the grotto.
Numerous cycling and walking routes have been mapped out in the surrounding area.
The Chapel of Our Lady, with its Lourdes Grotto, looks well-maintained. The chapel can be reached via the N364 road, as you enter Beveren aan de IJzer.
