In Adinkerke, a sub-municipality of De Panne, located in the Westhoek region of West Flanders, there is a Lourdes grotto in the Church of Saint Audomarus. The church contains remains of an earlier church dating from 1120. The church was built in 1855, but the Lourdes grotto is of a later date. The church is in a Neo-Gothic style and was designed by the architect Pierre François Buyck (1805-1877) from Bruges.
The Lourdes grotto is located near the entrance of the Saint Audomarus Church and was made by Amand Dereere (1857-?), an artisan from Eerneghem.
The statue of Mary is surrounded by little lights and an anchor with rope has been placed at her right foot. The small statue depicts a praying Bernadette Soubirous. Candles are burning by the grotto. The Lourdes grotto is freely accessible daily and gives a well-kept impression. It is a peaceful place to pray, to thank Mary and to greet her.
By the Lourdes grotto stands a pietà and a cabinet with names of victims of the Great War / First World War (1914-1918).
