In the buildings on the Heeckeren estate, the Dominican Sisters of Neerbosch in Goor reside in a convent. They had the grotto built in 1934. The sisters provide Catholic education. They leave the buildings in 1998. Afterwards, Sister Irma Paulette Harink remains behind. The building is given the designation of an asylum seeker centre.
In 205, a healthcare institution will move into the complex, and Sister Irma Paulette Harink will make an agreement that the cave will remain and be restored.
In 2005 the cave was restored and rededicated, this time by pastor Jurgen Arnoldus Christines Jansen (*1973). This was done on the initiative of Sister Irma Paulette Harink.
During my visit in June 2026, the Lourdes Grotto gave a neglected impression and is largely overgrown with plants. The effigy of Bernadette Soubirous, the seer of Lourdes, is no longer visible. To the left of the grotto, there is a niche.
The cave is located on the Heeckeren estate, which was once the monastery garden, where there is a residential institution for people with learning disabilities.
The almost entirely overgrown cave can be found in the garden of Huis Heeckeren, 50 metres in on the right after entering.
Address: Mossendamseweg 26, near Kloosterlaan in Goor, which belongs to the municipality of Hof van Twente and is located in the province of Overijssel.
