The Catholic faith states that every human being is born with original sin. The only exception to this is Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Mary is seen as the new Eve, representing a life that is good and pure.
In 1854 the dogma of the “Immaculate Conception of Mary” was proclaimed. Four years later, in 1858, Mary made herself known to Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes as the “Immaculate Conception”.
On December 8th, it is the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. This day is dedicated to showing great reverence and veneration to Our Lady. Nine months after December 8th is September 8th, which is the feast of the Nativity of Mary.
