The following dates are important in June

3 June

The first image of Mary to be crowned by a Pope was the “Madonna del Populo” (Our Lady of the People) in 1782. The coronation was performed by Pius VI, Pope during the period 1775-1799, in the cathedral of Cesena in Italy.

4 June

Reopening of the Ta’ Pinu Basilica on the island of Gozo (Malta). This is happening after a thorough restoration of the pilgrimage church (2008).

8 June

Crowning of the statue of the Virgin of El Rocío (Spain) by Enrique Almaraz y Santos (1847-1922), Cardinal and Archbishop of Valencia (1907-1920). The coronation takes place in 1919.

9 June

Maria, Mother of all grace (Maria Mater Gratiae). It is a reminder of the greeting of the Archangel Gabriel when he visited Mary to announce the birth of Jesus with the words: Ave Maria, gratia plena (Hail Mary, full of grace).

13 June

Second apparition of Our Lady in Fatima (1917). This takes place in the Cova da Iria, where the Chapel of the Apparition was later built.

14 June

14 June 1925 - beatification of Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879). In 1858, she met Mary eighteen times in Lourdes.

15 June

15 June 1921 – The 7th apparition of Mary to Lucia dos Santos, one of the three seers from 1917, in the Cova da Iria in Fatima. This happens on the day Lucia leaves Fatima for a boarding school run by the Sisters of Saint Dorothy near Porto in Portugal. This apparition is a support in Lucia’s personal life in carrying out the difficult decision to go to boarding school. Mary says: “Go, follow the path the bishop wants you to take, this is the will of God.”.

17 June

17 June 1849 – first apparition of Mary to three young shepherdesses in Dolina, Austria. Mary emphasises doing penance and converting.

20 June

20 June 1935 – Coronation of the statue of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu on the island of Gozo (Malta) by Alessio Enrico Maria Lepicier (1863-1936), Cardinal (1927-1935).

24 June

First apparition of Mary in Medjugorje, at the foot of Podbrdo hill near Bijakovici, to four teenage visionaries (1981). The apparitions in Medjugorje continued for decades.

25 June

Second apparition of Mary in Medjugorje, now without the Child, and this happens again on Podbrdo, the Hill of Apparitions. She calls herself Queen of Peace (1981).

26 June

26 June 1981 - During her third apparition in Medjugorje, Mary answered the question of who she was by saying: “I am the Blessed Virgin Mary.” She also said: “Peace, peace, peace! Reconcile yourselves! Go in peace from God” and ”I am the Queen of Peace.” The apparitions continue well into the 21st century.

27 June

Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

28 June

Second apparition of Mary in Gietrzwald, Poland, to two seers (1877).

29 June

29 June 1871 - Consecration of the renovated chapel of Gaverland in Flanders (Belgium) by Henricus Franciscus Bracq (1804-1888), Bishop of the Diocese of Ghent (1865-1888).

30 June

The devotional image of Mary is placed in the church of the pilgrimage site Maria Lockerboden in Mötz, Austria (1901).
