The Lourdes Grotto was built in 1955, made possible by the parishioners who donated to its completion. The grotto is constructed from field stones from the locality of Ootmarsum, giving it a unique appearance. The Lourdes Grotto was consecrated in the Marian Year of 1958 during a Marian procession. Within the grotto are statues of Mary.
The Lourdes Grotto does not have a candle holder, and no candles are available at the grotto. The Lourdes Grotto is well maintained and gives a very neat impression. There is a bench at the grotto, where visitors can sit to pray, rest, and look at the grotto.
The Saint Pancras Church is located near the Lourdes Grotto. The church was built between 1924 and 1925, designed by architect Johannes Theodoor (Jan) van Elsberg (1928-2011). Inside the beautiful church, you can see depictions of Our Lady and a unique representation of faith in the back wall of the chancel, namely a painted apse. The church has limited opening hours.
In front of the church, at the edge of the churchyard, stands a bell tower, belonging to a church without a steeple. The 1572 bell was requisitioned by the occupying forces during the Second World War (1939-1945). After the war, a different bell was acquired, which only rings for funerals, cast by the Van Bergen bell foundry from Heiligerlee.
The Lourdes Grotto is located in the presbytery garden near St. Pancras Church and the graveyard.
