In the north of Luxembourg, a Lourdes grotto is situated between Ouren and Lieler. The grotto was created in 1955 by the inhabitants of Lieler. The Lourdes grotto stands as a thank you to Mary from the inhabitants of Lieler for protecting the population and the village during the Second World War (1939-1945). This information is on a plaque on the left side of the grotto. Behind the Lourdes grotto are tall trees.
The well-maintained Lourdes grotto displays a broad scene, which is fenced off with a low railing. Mary stands in a niche at a height of about 2 metres. On the other side of the Lourdes grotto is a depiction of the kneeling and praying Bernadette. In the middle of the grotto stands a stone table, which can serve as a small altar.
The Lourdes Grotto is located on the CR 338, on the right-hand side of the road, coming from Ouren, approximately 400 metres before the village of Lieler. The grotto is not far from the tripoint of Luxembourg, Belgium, and Germany.
Travelling from Troisvierges to Lieler is 12 km east. Departing from Clervaux to arrive in Lieler means travelling 14 km north-east.
