In the Marian pilgrimage site of Marienweiher, near Marktleugast, in northeast Bavaria, there is a Lourdes grotto. In fact, it is a Mary grotto because the depiction of Bernadette Soubirous is missing. Mary stands upright, with hands clasped, in a well-maintained niche, near the entrance to the church.
Beneath the image of Mary and the candle plate, a fountain has been created. On the lower left of the grotto, a plaque is attached bearing the inscription that the grotto is a gift from the pilgrimages from Bamberg to Marienweiher and the year 1897 is mentioned.
