In Overwinden, a sub-municipality of Landen which is two kilometres away, stands a Lourdes grotto. The grotto is located on Kruisboomstraat, next to number 2, the former presbytery, near the corner with Pellestraat. The Lourdes grotto lies a few dozen metres from the 16th-century Saint-Aldegondis Church.
The Lourdes grotto was built in 1929 on the initiative of Jan op ’t Roodt (1885-1974), parish priest of Overwinden. On 8 December 1929, the grotto was consecrated by Dean Henricus Claes, formerly parish priest of Overwinden.
A wrought iron fence has been erected at the entrance of the cave. At the cave, there are statues of Mary, Bernadette, and two angels. The Lourdes grotto contains flowers and burning candles. It is noteworthy that to the right of the grotto, a passage has been bricked up.
The Lourdes Grotto is well-maintained and is a lovely place to be with Mary.
Address: Kruisboomstraat, next to number 2, 3400 Overwinden.
