The place where the church stands has been a space for giving thanks to Mary for protecting the area from disaster and other misfortunes since approximately 1500. At that time, a chapel was built. The number of pilgrims grew year by year. The chapel of Carmine in Miane is mentioned on a Venetian map from 1683. In 1696, an ecclesiastical document mentions the existence of the “Romitorio del Carmine” (hermitage of the Carmel) which was managed by the hermit Fra Mattio.
On the site that has been dedicated to Mary for centuries, a church is built in 1819 by the inhabitants of Miane. In 1824, the church is consecrated by Jacopo Monico (1778-1851), Bishop of Ceneda (1823-1827), Patriarch of Venice (1827-1851), and Cardinal (1827-1851). The church is somewhat enlarged in 1828 to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims.
The bell tower dates from 1841 and stands separately from the church. Between 1898 and 1901, the hillside behind the church was partially excavated to create a large passage around the church and allow for some expansion of the place of worship. In 1908, the bell tower was heightened. In 1908, the church's entrance on the front was altered and a stone staircase was added. Above the façade, an inscription was added with the text: “virgini deirarae carmelitane” (to the Carmelite Virgin) and the text “ERECTUM MDCCCXIX INSTAURATUM MCMXII” (erected 1819, established 1912) is also visible. In 1912, Vittorio Casagrande painted the large fresco of the Madonna del Carmine (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) with the scapular on the ceiling of the church hall.
In 2020, the church underwent a restoration.
The blacksmith-sculptor Valentino Moro from Miane created a bronze Madonna in 2021. It is an iron structure and depicts an open trunk. The bronze Madonna is attached in the hollow, amidst white roses. This work of art was made for the 200th anniversary of the sanctuary. It was inaugurated and blessed on Saturday, 17 July 2021. The artistic depiction is a gift from the people of Miane. The residents of Miane are deeply religious and show great love for the sanctuary.
The sanctuary is located 500m above sea level on the hill in Valetta Visnà di Miane, in a wooded area, near the banks of the Miano. It consists of a church, sacristy, and guest rooms. The sanctuary has officially existed since 1913 and can be reached on foot via an old road with some climbs or by car along a wider street.
The name of the shrine comes from Mount Carmel in Palestine, where it was the time of the crusades in 1155. Pilgrims in the Holy Land established a place of prayer there. The word ‘Carmel” means “garden” in Hebrew.
The main entrance to the church is via a stone staircase. Then a ceiling painting draws the visitors' attention.
The church's interior is impressive with the main altar made of Carrara marble.
A Via Crucis can also be visited, which was restored in 2020.

On a journey through the northeast of Italy, I am visiting the sanctuary at Miane.
Upon entering the sanctuary's domain, I am welcomed by a sign with information about this place. Flowers grow beside the sign, and this immediately gives me a very welcome feeling.
After entering the stone staircase, I arrive in the church hall. Here there is a beautiful ceiling fresco. Then it is time to enter the pilgrimage church. There I take a walk around and see the Madonna statue. Both Mary and the young Jesus are crowned. In her right hand, Our Lady carries scapulars. At this statue, it's time to pray and think of friends who are struggling with their health. After the time for prayer and reflection, I walk around the church once more. I increasingly enjoy the beauty of this place.
I am impressed by the artwork of Valentino Moro from Miane. The open trunk, white roses, and the statue of Mary create a magnificent image. What craftsmanship! There is not only beauty here in the pilgrimage church, but also outside.
Walks can be taken in the surrounding area, which is rolling and hilly. The large cities of Treviso and Vicenza are located in the region.
