Schmiede is located in the north of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, a short distance from the village of Huldange (Luxembourgish: Huldang, German: Huldingen), near the border crossing to Belgium. The hamlet belongs to the municipality of Troisvierges. The Lourdes Grotto is located about 2 km after the “shopping centre” on the left side of the N7 road, near a bus stop.
To protect the statue, Mary stands behind a glass pane in the Grotto of Lourdes, which is dirty. The image of Our Lady stands at a height of approximately 2 metres. The small image of Bernadette is also protected in the same way.
Schmiede is not far from the town of Clervaux, in the far north of Luxembourg. To go from Clervaux to Schmiede is to travel 18 km north. Travelling from Troisvierges to Schmiede means going 10 km north. From the Belgian town of Vielsalm to Schmiede means driving 19 km in a southeasterly direction via the N68.
