In the village of Walsbets, which lies near Landen, stands a centuries-old church dedicated to St John the Baptist. The oldest part of the building dates from the 13th century. The two-aisled, Romanesque-Gothic church is built of yellow sandstone. The attached tower also dates from the 13th century. The spire was added in the 17th century. In 1931–1932, the church was enlarged and restored. It has been a listed building since 1959.
The church features colourful stained-glass windows. The church’s centrepiece is a 19th-century oak statue of the Virgin and Child, entitled “Our Lady of Assistance”; both the Mother and the Child are crowned.
A stone statue of the Virgin and Child has been placed against a wall.
Every year, an extensive nativity scene can be visited in the church.
Address: Wezerenstraat 70, B3401 Walsbets/Landen.
